Focus: Democracy is a one-hour news special produced, reported, and anchored by students at Montclair State’s School of Communications and Media. For the past three months, students have interviewed, reported, edited, and interviewed for this timely and provocative News Lab special report. The broadcast will explore the issues that America faces as it comes out of this unprecedented election, the impact of which will be felt for many years.
During the special, students will interview such national experts on the American political scene as Jonathan Alter, MSNBC analyst, author and documentarian; we’ll discuss the future of polling with one of the top leaders of the nationally-recognized Marist poll; and we’ll talk to a leading expert on the youth vote.
All fall, while working remotely, students have put together field reporting pieces on such topics as the coronavirus’ effect on mental health in the Black community, the impact of climate change in New Jersey, the legalization of marijuana in New Jersey, and what young voters-to-be make of the run for the White House.
Focus: Democracy is also a vivid illustration of how our future communication and media leaders are creating must-watch content today, and are thriving in practicing their craft, even during a pandemic.
